BADGES

Scout Proficiency Badges are earned when a Scout masters an individual skill or interest. A Scout collects badges as a merit for finishing certain requirements.

Proficiency Badges are in six groups:

Interest Badges (green background):

Badges designed to pique the interest of Scouts. Badges in this category allow for the exploration of a subject. It helps a Scout develop or improve a skill.

Pursuit Badges (green background):

These are activity badges. Scout in pursuit of badges in this category will find themselves working out in the field. In other words, hands on learning.

Service Badges (red background):

Badges in these category involve both theory and practical work. These usually involve an activity that allows Scouts to give back to their community.

Special Merit Badges (colour varies):

These badges require special skills that will really challenge a Scout. You'll be engaged in new activities that may start up a new interest or hobby. Just be prepared to test the limit of your knowledge in different Scouting subjects.

Collective Achievement Badges (green background with red border):

Badges here are designed to encourage teamwork. They are earned as a group or patrol rather than an individual Scout. Badges in this category are usually achieved over time.

Instructor Badges (same background with the pursuit badge with gold border):

This involves the practice of instruction. To earn an Instructor Badge, a Scout must first earn the proficiency badge. Then they must demonstrate they have sufficient knowledge, skill, and understanding in the badge subject to be able to teach it. After training other Scouts in achieving the badge for a period of three months you can be awarded you Instructor Badge.

Journals are the best way to keep track of the badges you earn. We recommend having a book you use only for your badge entries.
